Here are some pictures of some of the big books that I have made and used in my classroom. I do not have credit for many of the poems and songs. If you know where these came from, email me so I can give credit. When available, there is a link to download the text in Microsoft Word.

The Mitten Animals

This book is from the Jan Brett book, The Mitten. The pictures and clues are from Jan Brett's website.

Ten Teddy Bears

I used clip art teddy bears to create the graphics for this book. The cover has all 10 teddy bears. Each page has the appropriate number of bears.

Five Little Valentines

I used the Ellison machine to make a die cut for each page. I put all colors of hearts on the "clue page" and only the correct color of heart on the "answer page". I put all of the hearts on the cover. *You can also make this book interactive by putting velcro on the hearts instead of gluing them down. Pass them out to the children and let them put on the heart that fits the clue.

Brilliant Butterflies

I used the Ellison machine to make a die cut for each page. I put all colors of butterflies on the cover and last page of the book and the correct color of butterfly on the appropriate page. *You can also make this book interactive by putting Velcro on the butterflies instead of gluing them down. Pass them out to the children and let them put on the butterfly that fits the clue.

Eating the Gingerbread Man

This YUMMY book is one of my favorites! I used Frog Street Press' gingerbread (GB) man notepad. The cover and first page each have an intact GB man. On each page, I ripped off the appropriate body part. For "Hmmm... I know!", I glued on the ripped off body parts. The "Gulp" page is blank and the last two pages have torn bits leftover from the ripped body parts.

I See A Circus

There are not a lot of books available for the circus theme. Often, graphics inspire me to make a predictable book. In this case, I met the need for a circus big book while using cut and easy clip art. I used the predictable sentence "I see..." and circus themed graphics from Carson Dellosa for this book.

The Gummy Bear Song

This  is another book is based on a Dr. Jean song, on her CD Is Everybody Happy? The words are on her site. I found teddy bear clip art, colored them (r)ed, (o)range, (y)ellow, (g)reen, and (p)urple. I glued them on the cover On page 1, I glued an (o), (y) , (g), and (p) bear. The (r) bear is laminated and attached with Velcro. On page 2, I glued on a (o), (g), and (p) bear. The (o) bear is laminated and attached with Velcro. Continue with this pattern. Laminate book. I attached plastic pennies to the bears on the cover with Velcro. Before reading, pass out the pennies. As you are reading, pick a student to bring you a penny in exchange for a gummy bear.

Are You Cold?

Look at the bottom of this page to order this resource!

This is an enlarge mini reproducible book from the teacher resource, I Can Make It! I Can Read It! Winter, published by The Education Center. I simply enlarged this book to 11 x 14 paper, trimmed and colored. On the last page, I added my picture to show through the hat. I glued on a page to cover the back of the picture and then laminated and bound the book.

Gingerbread Man Mystery

Look at the bottom of this page to order this resource!

This is an enlarge mini reproducible book from the teacher resource, I Can Make It! I Can Read It! Winter, published by The Education Center. Students have to figure out what is missing from each page. After enlarging to fit on 11 x 14 paper, I used white out to cover the key word of what was missing. Then, I made an extra copy of the pieces (man, fox, sun, and cow) at the size from the mini book. After coloring and trimming each page, I laminated and bound the book and laminated the pieces. I used Velcro to attach the pieces to page 1.  I put an extra piece of Velcro in the blank spot of each page to fill in "The ___ is missing." Before reading, I pass out the pieces. As we are reading, I encourage students to figure out who is missing and place that piece on the Velcro square.

Five Little Snowmen Fat

Special thanks to Kathy Holder for creating this book!

I used Shapes, Etc. snowmen notepads for the graphics. I created various hats on colored paper and glued over the notepads black hats. With each page, I glued on one less snowman. * To make this book interactive, you can laminate the snowmen and attach them to the book using Velcro.

Where Are My Mittens?

Look at the bottom of this page to order this resource!

This is another enlarge mini reproducible book from the teacher resource, I Can Make It! I Can Read It! Winter, published by The Education Center. I simply enlarged this book to 8.5 x 11 paper, trimmed, and colored. I glued these pages on mitten shaped paper, laminated, and bound the book. I colored and laminated the mitten pieces and attached to the book with Velcro.

Colorful Mittens

Special thanks to Gracye McCoy for creating this book!

I cut out and glued the words onto the appropriate mitten shaped paper. I used a mitten clip art to create the cover. Then I laminated and bound at the top. It is a super simple book that can be modified for other themes: Colorful Presents, Colorful Pumpkins, Colorful Turkeys, Colorful Puppies, etc.
